New Maui County TAT: What Vacation Rental Owners Need to Know
Updated: Oct 6
Maui County has launched its new myMauiTAT portal for managing Maui County Transient Accommodations Tax accounts.
If you own a vacation rental or other transient accommodation on Maui, there’s one important change to know: you’ll need to register your own account in the new system before your accountant or bookkeeper can access it on your behalf.
The good news? Once the initial registration is complete, you can grant your tax professional third-party access so they can continue handling your Maui County TA filings and payments.

How to Register for myMauiTAT
Step One: Register Your New Maui County TAT Account
Visit the myMauiTAT portal and select the option to register or log in.
Create your login using your email address. You’ll need to verify your email address using the verification email sent to you before continuing.
Step Two: Identify Your TA Account
During registration, select Hawaii Tax ID (TA) as your account identification method.
You’ll then enter your Hawaii TA number. You can find this number on previous Hawaii TA filings or other correspondence from the Hawaii Department of Taxation.
Depending on your account, you may also be asked for information such as your mailing address, rental property address, or the SSN/EIN associated with the account.
Step Three: Validate Your Account
The portal will ask you to verify that you are authorized to access the account.
One option is to select Payment Amount and enter the amount of a recent payment posted to your Maui County TA account.
Other verification methods may also be available, including information from a recent Maui TA letter or a line-item amount from a TA-1 or TA-2 return filed with the Hawaii Department of Taxation.
Step Four: Finish Your Registration
Follow the remaining prompts to confirm your account and provide the SSN or EIN associated with the account when requested.
Once this is complete, your Maui County TA account will be connected to your new myMauiTAT login.
Have an Accountant or Bookkeeper? You’ll Need to Give Them Access
This is one of the biggest changes with the new system.
Your accountant or bookkeeper cannot complete the initial myMauiTAT registration for you. The taxpayer must register first. Afterward, you can invite your tax professional to access the account through their own myMauiTAT login.
Once you’re logged in, navigate to:
Manage My Profile → More... → Manage Third-Party Access → Send an Invitation
Enter the email address your accountant or bookkeeper uses for their myMauiTAT profile.
Once the invitation is accepted, they’ll be able to access your Maui County TA account through their own login and handle authorized filings and payments on your behalf.
